You can help grow the animation community in Alberta! Become a sponsor!
AniJam is a community centred initiative.
Our goal is to elevate emerging artists and animation professionals across Alberta whether they have taken one of Pixel Blue’s programs or not. We do not make money on Ani_Jam. There are no entrance fees to participate in the jam. We believe that events like Ani_Jam can bring more attention to the skilled artists that live and work in Alberta. If we elevate each other, we can show local businesses, film makers, ad agencies, and the general public that they can make their next high quality animation project here in the province of Alberta.
We believe that growing this event will challenge students, and professionals alike to create exciting new projects that can be shared across Canada and internationally. If this sounds like something you want to see too, We have a few ideas about how you can help!
Sponsor a prize. We would like to recognize as many excellent films as possible by providing something of value to the artists that worked so hard creating them. Animation tools and software are expensive, and if we can provide some promising film-makers with the means to create more work, we’d love to do so!
Provide access to a theatre. Our dream is to host our Ani_JamV3 showcase event a theatre in Edmonton. We have our eyes on a few spaces, but maybe you or your organization can help. We would also love to screen these films in some capacity across Alberta and Canada, whether that’s through a theatre, or a high school classroom. We’d love to share these films with you!
Satellite locations for in-person participants across Alberta. Pixel Blue College is in Edmonton, and we would love other opportunities for teams of animators to collaborate in-person across the province. If you have the space, let’s chat!
Offer mentorship. This is so valuable to our participants. If you have experience in animation or film-making and would like to offer your time to help our winning participants navigate their next steps in the industry, we would be grateful!
Getting the word out. If you have a platform that can help us reach new audiences, we’d love to hear from you.

Judging Process
The Judging Panel is made up of between 7 and 10 industry professionals representing a broad range of skill sets that include, animation, storyboarding, directing, producing and more. Each judge receives an online form to provide their scores and written feedback if they choose. Written feedback will be collected and passed along to the teams anonymously.
Each submission has the potential to score a total of 30 points per judge. The animation jam hosts will add up each film’s points from each of the judges and the film with the most total points will be determined the winner. In the event of a tie, the film with the highest “overall impact” score will be the winner.
Judges determine their scores based on the following criteria:
Concept, creativity, and originality (/5): Does the work apply the theme in a unique and interesting way?
Story, pacing, and clarity (/5): Is the story clear and communicated well?
Art direction and visual appeal (/5): Does the film look professional, cohesive, and is it executed to a high degree of quality? (backgrounds, character designs, etc)
Animation technical quality (/5): Does the film demonstrate good animation technique?
Overall impact (/10): The overall effectiveness of the animation (did we like it?)
